Position Summary:
MDG is looking for a Plant Engineer who has 5+ years of experience in installing and maintaining plant floor mechanical and electrical systems. The Plant Engineer assures that equipment used in the day-to-day manufacturing and blending of bioaugmentation products are performing in optimal condition and actively participates in the implementation of new equipment and processes.

Responsibilities:
  • Ensure the proper operation of manufacturing equipment that include bioreactors (fermentation vessels), centrifuges, refrigeration equipment, freeze dryers, spray dryers, boilers, chillers, air compressors, liquid and powder blenders and mills.
  • Troubleshoots and isolates equipment problems (mechanical and electrical).
  • Works with maintenance personnel to implement repairs while minimizing impact to production.
  • Assist Maintenance Manager and use CMMS software to document all maintenance and repair activities. Interpret, understand, and assist in the development of technical documents such as P&ID, equipment lists, logic diagrams, and schematics.
  • Coordinate with outside mechanical and electrical contractors to perform work outside of MDG core competencies.
  • Develop, design and plan equipment and machine layouts, workflow, and safety precautions to enhance utilization of plant and manufacturing facilities.
  • Oversee installation and commissioning of new plant floor equipment.
  • Generate documentation such as user requirements specification, functional specifications, hardware design specifications, and software design specifications for new MDG projects.
  • Evaluate current and emerging technologies for possible use at MDG.
  • Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.
Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Manufacturing, fermentation, chemical, food/feed product operations experience.
  • Knowledge of specialized equipment such as bioreactors, centrifuges, and freeze dryers.
  • AutoCAD knowledge.
  • Demonstrates proficient computer skills, especially with MS Office and database applications.
  • Outstanding organizational skills and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-motivated. Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral & written).
  • Keen troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Experience with industrial equipment such as steam generators, refrigeration and air compressors.
  • Hands-on experience and knowledge of instrumentation, industrial motor controls and power technologies.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to complete projects within specified timelines.
  • Collaborative. Ability to work well with others.
Education, Training, Experience
  • Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or other Engineering majors.
  • 5+ years of experience in installing and maintaining plant floor mechanical and electrical systems.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
  • Majority of work is conducted in a temperature-controlled office environment and may require extended periods of sitting.
  • Work may include occasional lifting (up to 30 lbs.).
  • May be exposed to airborne particles and chemicals used in fermentation production facilities.
